FOR THE PARISHES OF SAINT-PIERRE / OTTERBURNE (Saint-Viateur) Fr. Robert Laroche, OMI, is appointed parochial administrator for a one-year mandate, until August 1, 2021. Indeed, he assumed this position on June 1st, 2020. His mandate could be extended with the approval of the Lacombe Province of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. He introduces himself:
Greetings from Father Robert
I have been asked by the Parish of St-Pierre-Jolys to give a brief description of who I am and where I come from. As most of you already know, I was born in St-Pierre-Jolys in 1952 and my parents moved away from St. Pierre two years after my birth for work related reasons. As a child, I was always very comfortable within the Church setting and began hungering for the priesthood in my mid-teens. I had originally thought of becoming a Cistercian monk but as time went on, I realized this was not my vocation. Joining the Oblates of Mary Immaculate was a real blessing for me in many ways as I continued discerning my vocation.
In the early years of my priesthood, I did pretty well what I wanted to do. I asked to go up north and this was granted, I asked to work with the 1st Nations People, and this was also granted. Now that I am older my community is now asking me to give my time and energy to the needs of the Oblate Community and that of the wider Church. The reason I am now in St-Pierre-Jolys stems from the fruits of this calling.
With God by my side I hope to serve this community faithfully and with joy. Many see me smiling during Eucharistic celebrations and this seems to have become my trademark. I just love being in the Lord’s presence and sharing that joy with those around me.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Robert Laroche omi
